Keep Your Tile Beautiful: Effective Care Tips

Tile flooring is loved for its beauty as well as its stain and water resistance and effortless maintenance. With the right tile care and maintenance routine, your timeless new flooring will stand the test of time.

Daily Cleaning Routine for Tile Floors

Sweep or vacuum your tile to remove dust and debris before using any cleaning products. Wet mop your tile at least once a week (more frequently in heavy traffic areas).

Glazed tiles – Clean regularly with an all-purpose, non-oil-based household cleaner that’s compatible with grout. Use an everyday multipurpose spray cleaner to remove soap scum, hard water deposits, and mildew on wall tiles in your bath or shower.

Unglazed tiles – Use tile cleaners formulated with a neutral pH to safely remove grease, oil, and everyday spills. Just be sure to check the cleaner is recommended for the intended use. Unglazed tile should not be cleaned with any product that contains color.

Glass tiles – Clean glass tile with any nonabrasive cleaner recommended for either glass or tile.

Protecting Your Tile Investment: Preventative Care

Use a sealer on grout joints shortly after installation and use products compatible with grout. Even though tile is water resistant, do clean up spills as quickly as possible so your grout won’t become stained.

After cleaning tile, rinse the entire area with clear water to remove any cleaning solution residue. Place floor protectors under furniture to avoid scratching tile floors. Avoid cleaners containing acid or bleach, as these products can discolor grout if used too often. Avoid wax-based cleaners and oil-based detergents. Replace any broken tile to prevent dirt and moisture from settling in.
